World Diabetes Day is celebrated worldwide on November 14 for prevention and management through diabetes screening.
In 1991, the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization established World Diabetes Day to raise awareness and inform public opinion on the prevention and management of diabetes, thanks to diabetes screening.
We celebrated it worldwide on November 14, the anniversary of the birth of Frederick Banting. He discovered insulin with the help of Charles Best.
Diabetes is a social disease that affects over 5,000,000 people in Italy.
On Wednesday, 9 November, the Diabetes Assistance Volunteers Association (doctors and secretaries of the Association) will carry out diabetic screening activities voluntarily, aimed at all Spiga Nord staff.
The screening will consist of:
- In evaluating capillary blood glucose through a prick in the finger for measurement with a blood glucose strip on a blood drop. Blood glucose measurement allows you to find blood sugar values. Blood glucose is an essential indicator for diagnosing diabetes and for controlling the disease.
- Blood pressure measurement is essential for preventing diseases such as hypertension and hypotension, which can cause serious consequences. Hypertension does not cause symptoms until cardiovascular complications appear. It is a significant risk factor for myocardial infarction, heart failure, stroke, and kidney disease. Hypotension occurs in conditions where blood pressure is much lower than usual. It indicates a possible risk that the heart, brain and other body organs and tissues are not receiving enough oxygen and nutrients.
- Questionnaire to highlight concomitant diabetic risk factors.
If the data show a medium or high disease risk, the doctor will give general indications on nutrition and lifestyle. He will invite the Person to contact the GP for further checks.
